Īmān on tour in the UK
NASHEEDS 4 YOUTH TOUR
Nasheeds 4 Youth (N4Y) is an art-in-education based project organised by Meem Music in association with local organisations that aims to bring nasheeds to youngsters in towns and cities up and down the UK in a more intimate fashion. It’s about providing schools, colleges, community centres with an opportunity to listen, interact and learn from up-and-coming nasheed artists. While it focuses on the youth the tour also invites parents and others to participate.
N4Y 2004
Last year N4Y 2004 had the group 786 from
America come over and do a highly successful tour which included:
• meeting underprivileged youth in Glasgow at a youth club
• running nasheed workshops at a community centre in Nottingham
• performing at the annual FOSIS conference
• performing in towns/cities that have never had nasheed events organised
there, e.g.
Norwich and Rochdale
• interview on BBC Asian Network
This year we have a nasheed group called Īmān from Cape Town, South Africa coming over to the UK during 1-12 th July. A sample track – Labbayk – can be heard by visiting www.meemmusic.com and allowing the home page to download fully.
For the tour we are planning to organise shows, workshops, performances as
well as school/mosque/community centre visits. Highlights will insha'Allah
include:
• Hijaz College Youth Camp in Nuneaton – 1500-2000 people expected
• FOSIS Annual Student Conference in Leicester Univ. – 700-1000
people expected
• Children & Family event at Middlesbrough Town Hall – 500-700
people expected
• Visits to schools/mosques/community centres/ youth clubs in Bradford,
Leeds,
Rochdale, Manchester, Birmingham, Leicester, Nottingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh
and Cardiff
• Interviews and performances on Islam Channel and Bridges TV, plus
print and radio media
