Wahied performs at GPU 2007 in London
The
Global Peace & Unity Event has proved to be the world’s largest
Islamic event attracting both Muslims and Non-Muslims interested to experience
the diversity of Islam.
The Global Peace & Unity Event to be hold at Excel in London on 24-25 November 2007 marks the third offering of the Event. The first Global Peace & Unity Event in 2005 was organised by Islam Channel to offer the Muslims an entertainment platform within the confines of Islam. The historic GPU event is held at the Excel Conference & Exhibition Centre which can accommodate in excess of 35,000 attendees on each day.
In the first two years, the event has attracted over 50,000 people nationally and internationally, mainly Muslims who had gathered to celebrate the global message of peace and unity and gain knowledge from International speakers, acclaimed academics and scholars. GPU strives to cater for every one in the community from students, professionals, businessmen, children, senior citizens and housewives etc.
Some of the speakers lined up for this year's event are: renowned Islamic scholar Dr Jamal Badawi, journalist Robert Fisk, Yusuf Islam and Muslim Canadian scholar, now resident in South Africa, Dr Abdullah Hakim Quick.
This year marks the first time that the well-known nasheed artist from Cape Town, Wahied Kannemeyer, will also be performing at the historic event.
The nasheed concert is an exclusive evening where the audience of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy an eclectic range of Islamic music provided by artists from different parts of the world. Past events have seen the likes of International artists such as Ahmed Bukhatir, Zain Bhikha, Imad Rami, Abu Ratib, Dawud Wharnsby performing on the concert evening of the event.
