Wahied performs at Discover Islam 2006 exhibition
The
inaugural Disover Islam 2006 exhibition was held at the V & A Waterfront
in Cape Town (South Africa) from 25-27 August 2006.
At the official opening on 24 August, after the keynote speakers had made the presentations, Wahied performed nasheed/qasidah as part of a initiative to present different dimensions of the religio-cultural life of the Muslim community in Cape Town. Keynote speakers included the Mayoress of Cape Town. Ms. Helen Zille and the world-renowned Islamic scholar Dr Jamal Badawi.
The exhibition was presented by the Muslims Students Association (MSA) of the Cape.
The event was organised to create an awareness of the role played by Muslims in the history of South Africa. A range of exhibition stalls of Muslim organisations dealt with, amongst others, Islamic belief and culture, artwork, calligraphy, Islamic dress, the Muslim media and social welfare projects.
